If you're at a loose end with New Year plans, a group in Christchurch have laid bare a unique option to ring-in 2016.

The New Zealand Naturist Federation is kicking off its annual festival in Christchurch today, running until January 3rd.

150 nudists will gather at the Pineglades Naturist Club for a week of sports, games, and nude camaraderie.

But rally coordinator Christine Nee said it's not just for seasoned nudists - it's open to anyone.

"Most people that come to clubs have this illusion that there's box at the gate where you take your clothes off and put them in there and you're not allowed to put your clothes back on until you leave again, which is completely wrong."

Nee said it's as much about the camaraderie, sports, and games as it is about naturism, and anyone's welcome to join in the fun.

She said not all activities are done in the nude, and a lot of it is down to the weather on the day.

"Dependant on weather, dependant on what the day is like - yes we are naturists so we like to be naked and in the fresh air, but if the weather is cool or inclement, of course we put clothes on."
