Customers flying on our national carrier will no longer have to opt-out of the burdensome extras.
Air New Zealand has bowed to pressure from the Commerce Commission over it's opt-out pricing system.
The commission had raised concerns that the method misleads customers into buying something they don't intend to.
It's chosen to simply issue Air New Zealand with a formal warning following the airline's decision to change to an opt-in basis.
Commission Chair Dr Mark Berry is pleased at the airline's response.
He adds they'll be targeting other companies with similar practices and encourage them to follow Air New Zealand's lead.
Berry says the change will ensure customers can make their own choices.
"It's a much safer way to do it, that they make the affirmative decision to opt in."
