UPDATED 2.20pm: Protesters who stormed three regional Department of Corrections offices over the treatment of a transgender prisoner have been arrested by police.

Prison advocacy group No Pride in Prison has taken exception to a transgender being held in 23-hour lockdown, which they claim is "akin to torture".

However, the group this afternoon claimed that all four of its protestors had been arrested by police, while Corrections say the female prisoner involved is known to make false accusations against staff and other prisoners.

Organiser of the protest Ti Lamusse said they will stay in the building as long as need be until their needs are met - part of a nationwide protest by No Pride in Prisons.

Corrections say they have moved the prisoner to solitary for her own safety but Mr Lamusse says he has spoken to the woman who feels extremely threatened.

She has said that if she is not moved from solitary she fears she will leave prison in a bodybag.

Police officers stopped members of the public from entering the Corrections facility building.
