New research has revealed Kiwis are wasting nearly two billion dollars on binned food every year.

Findings from the Rabobank-commissioned research suggest those who eat out more than three times a week are the most likely to waste food, tossing out more than a fifth of the food they buy.

The study shows nearly 80 per cent of New Zealanders don't like to waste food, but a staggering 94 per cent of us do it anyway.

Lavina Good, founder of food-recycling company Good Neighbour, said their company puts boxes and boxes of perfectly good waste food back on the market.

"That 10 tons every week adds up to two and a half million dollars worth of food that we are distributing back into the community here in Tauranga," she said.
