The Royal New Zealand Navy will be using it's 75th anniversary to thank those who've served.
The major celebration for the public will be a ceremonial entry into the Waitemata harbour at 11 this morning.
Chief of the Navy John Martin said the festivities are really about taking the Navy back to the people.
"Seventy-five years represents a significant investment by the people of New Zealand in their Navy we've had about a quarter of a million people go through the navy."
Mr Martin said the men and women of the Navy work in one of the most challenging environments on the planet.
"They do that in a way that brings great credit to the country, they've done that for the last 75 years, so it's something that's worth celebrating."
Those hoping to catch a glimpse of the ceremonial entry should head to Mt Victoria in Devenport or the Orakei Foreshore.
