It's been a long wait for the 300 families outside the Auckland City Mission today.
Babies and children are among the hundreds waiting for gifts and food packages - which are bolstering the Mission's usual services in the lead up to Christmas.
City Mission CEO Chris Farrelly says some families have travelled from Northland and Hamilton.
Others have slept outside all night.
One woman, Margaret-Anne, has been in the line with her family since 6 o'clock this morning - but she says it's worth it.
"It's worth every minute when you haven't got much in the cupboards, and you've got grandchildren," she said.
"I live on $80 a week - so that doesn't leave me much to buy presents."
One volunteer said there's a community feel outside, with everyone pitching in to take care of little ones.
