Treaty of Waitangi minister Chris Finlayson has put pen to paper on a settlement with a Wairarapa and Taranaki iwi.
The Crown and Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tamaki Nui-a-Rua have signed an agreement in principle to settle the iwi's historical Treaty of Waitangi claims.
It includes a Crown apology, financial and commercial redress of $93 million, and the opportunity to purchase some Crown-owned properties.
The Crown has also vested 19 Crown-owned sites of cultural significance to the iwi, and the iwi has agreed to share four sites with Rangitane o Wairarapa and Rangitane o Tamaki Nui-a-Rua.
Finlayson said the Crown is making significant progress towards settling historical Treaty grievances, signing 54 agreements in principle since 2009.
