An increasing number of Aucklanders are looking outside the city in a bid to find a home.
According to figures released by Trade Me, the average annual rent costs in Auckland have risen by more than $2000 across the past year.
Trade Me's property figures show the median rent within the city is sitting just shy of five hundred dollars a week - a rise of 9 percent.
Head of Trade Me Property Nigel Jefferies says average rent prices in those regions outside the city are also increasing.
He says we're starting to see a halo effect in the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty.
Waikato rent is up 8.5 percent and Bay of Plenty is up 13.3 percent as Aucklanders start to move further south.
Mr Jefferies says the Auckland house prices have hit an affordability issue, hence people are looking further south.
