The MetService is warning snow is on its way for Otago and Southland.

It's predicting snow to fall to low levels and even down to ground level from Sunday through to Monday.

Meteorologist Stephen Glassey says the blast will blanket the majority of both regions.

"Pretty much all of Southland and most of Otago, probably excluding North Otago."

Stephen Glassey says those living above 200 metres can expect a decent dump of snow.
