A large scrub fire has broken out in Otago.
The blaze in the Scroggs Hill area near Mosgiel covers about 400 square metres.
A Fire Southern Communications shift inspector said the fire was not a danger to the public.
It was understood the person or people who started the fire did not have a permit to do so.
Two fire appliances and a water tanker were at the scene at about 5.25pm.
