Age Concern is putting on a free Christmas lunch for people in Havelock North struggling financially.
The organisation is offering a hot meal on the big day for 150 people who may be separated from their families, living on a very low income, or suffering from illness.
Spokeswoman Carol Winters said they want to spread a lot of Christmas cheer, given the hardship caused by the water contamination crisis over the last few months.
She said last year they feed around 120 people, and said they're predicting this year's demand to be huge.
"Last year was spectacular and very humbling to be honest. The day is nothing short of a Christmas wonder, it's just beautiful."
Winters said people need to register before the day, as the meals are being catered.
They also have a Give a Little page running for people interested in making donations for the lunch.
