The Waikato District Health Board is being accused of enticing junior doctors to boycott their strike over safer hours.
It's offering anyone prepared to work during the three-day strike which starts on Tuesday up to $200 an hour.
National Secretary of the Resident Doctors Association Doctor Deborah Powell said the DHBs behaviour is flabbergasting.
"Clearly, the DHB is trying to entice members to work and thereby undermine the strike action. I think they'll be somewhat disappointed. The doctor's commitment to working safer rosters is not about money it's about making sure we get this matter settled.
"The residents are really very clear that they are going to get this settled and that they are going to be working safer hours in the future."
The Waikato DHB refutes the claim, saying it has an obligation to provide services to patients and it must pay those individuals willing to take on extra duties during the strike.
Resident doctors want the number of consecutive days, and night shifts they work reduced.
