David Clark says he's been keen on the health portfolio for some time.
The Dunedin North MP becomes Labour's spokesperson in that area, replacing the departing Annette King.
Clark said he came into politics wanting to make a difference in the lives of New Zealanders.
"One of the areas where I think the biggest opportunity is to make a difference is in the health portfolio."
