Hamilton City Council is urging locals to "Bin it, Don't Flush It" and suggest people around the country could do the same.
It's a campaign they're running after seeing London's 250 metre long sewer blockage consisting of sanitary products and cooking fat.
Hamilton City Council Waters Manager Maire Porter said toys, clothing and even false teeth have shown up in their systems, and is sure other cities have seen similar.
But said says there's one item which causes the most damage.
"The real issue is flushable wipes," she said.
"They don't break down that quickly and they get tangled up in our networks around our pumps - and that really does have the biggest impact."
Ms Porter said every waste water system has challenges around what people are flushing, and explained that negligence can cause a number of headaches.
"It could be anything from equipment damage, which can be quite expensive...but there's also the cost of responding to overflows and cleaning up."
