It’s good news for fans of Don McLean.
Known for his iconic hit, American Pie, the singer and his support act INXS’s Andrew Fariss are scheduled to perform at Auckland’s Town Hall and according to a Live Nation spokesperson, the show has been given the go-ahead.
“Tonight’s performance of Don McLean’s ‘The Day The Music Died’ final farewell tour will proceed as planned inside the Auckland Town Hall.” The statement read.
Meanwhile, the fate of the larger of the two concerts, Wu-Tang Clan remains up in the air.
Scheduled to take place at Auckland’s Spark Arena, the show marks the first time the iconic hip hop group have performed in Aotearoa since 2018 and if it proceeds, the show will include a special performance from American rapper Nas.
In a story posted to the group’s official Instagram page earlier today, they appeared to be at the downtown arena completing a sound check.

Concerns were raised by concert-goers this morning as Auckland braces for significant rainfall and while Mclean fans have their happy answer, Wu-Tang fans remain largely in the dark about whether the highly anticipated show will continue as planned.
If the Spark Arena show does go ahead, thousands of Aucklanders could be flocking into the CBD, battling against treacherous conditions as intense rainfall batters the region.
As of lunchtime today, some streams and rivers have burst their banks, schools and daycares across Auckland are evacuating and a State of Emergency has been declared for the Auckland region.
