As the Gallipoli centenary approaches, one Kiwi singer is reflecting on what she says is a forgotten ANZAC story.
Aly Cook has released the single 'Sassenay'.
It tells the story of a Lancaster bomber crashing near the occupied French village of the same name in 1943.
Onboard were eight airmen, including Royston Taylor from Hastings and John Henry Dugan from Australia.
Cook was inspired to write the song after touring to Sassenay.
She says to this day locals are convinced that, because of the way they landed, the airmen sacrificed themselves to save the village.
