Miss Piggy is the surprise honoree this year for a prestigious award for women who've made outstanding contributions in their fields.

The Muppets character will be presented with the Brooklyn Museum prize by Gloria Steinem herself, at a ceremony which will also be attended by Kermit the Frog.

Previous recipients include former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

The museum says Miss Piggy embodies "spirit, determination and grit" and has taught millions important lessons about overcoming obstacles.

Miss Piggy has declared: "Moi is thrilled."
