Quentin Tarantino introduced his latest film to New Zealand with a black carpet premiere in Auckland last night.
About 300 fans turned out at the New Zealand premiere for Tarantino's eighth film, The Hateful Eight.
It was never made clear why the carpet was black instead of red, but many speculated that it reflected Tarantino's style.
Sarah Gandy was at the Newmarket premiere for Newstalk ZB, and watched the esteemed director mingle with hundreds of Kiwi fans.
"Quentin Tarantino is an absolute icon and to watch him love being in New Zealand, be excited to meet his fans and excited to introduce us to his next film was pretty magical."
She said says it was incredible to see the way he interacted with them.
"He got around every single one of them, he made them cry, he signed their dvd covers, he gave them hugs, he gave them life advice. He was brilliant."
The Hateful Eight features Kiwi actress and stuntwoman Zoe Bell who plays one of the main characters in the western-style film.
The Kiwi actress says she's loving being back in the country.
Waiheke Island raised Bell walked the black carpet with Tarantino at the premiere.
She plays the character "Six Horse Judy" in the film.
Ms Bell says her and Tarantino are good friends and will often have a few beers or watch a film.
"Hanging out happens a lot, beers and film most of the time, conversation occasionally...sometimes we talk."
