David Bowie's musical Lazarus, one of his last artistic ventures, will open in London in October.

Dexter actor Michael C Hall will head up the London production of Lazarus which was one of Bowie's last works before he died in January following a battle with liver cancer.

The off-Broadway musical was co-written and co-produced by Bowie and showcases his songs including Heroes, Changes and Valentine's Day.

It also features his final single, Lazarus, which was released two days before his death, with lyrics including: "Look up here, I'm in heaven".

Lazarus will open at the King's Cross Theatre with performances from October 25, and will run until January 2017.

Written by Bowie and Enda Walsh and with direction by Ivo van Hove, Lazarus was inspired by the science fiction novel The Man Who Fell To Earth by Walter Tevis.

Bowie himself starred in the 1976 film adaptation of Tevis's novel.

The musical tells the story of Thomas Newton - an extraterrestrial stuck on Earth, unable to die and haunted by a past love.

The American production first opened at the New York Theatre Workshop last November, with the New York Times calling it a "great-sounding, great-looking and mind-numbing new musical".
