
UPDATED 9.34pm:Â Legendary singer and musician David Bowie has died aged 69, surrounded by family.
Bowie died peacefully after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.

Both the singer's publicist and his son have confirmed the death. Bowie's son, film director Duncan Jones said he will be offline for a while.

David Bowie has considerable connections with a number of people here in New Zealand.
Apart from his concert tours here, Mr Bowie also spent time here filming his star role in the film Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence.
New Zealand model Geeling Ng also starred in David Bowie's video for his hit single China Girl from his 1983 album China Girl.
 The family has also said while many will share in this loss, they ask that people respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.
Bowie's new album Blackstar was released just days ago, on his 69th birthday.Â
