UPDATED 3.02pm:Â A man stuck waist deep in mud in Auckland's Waitemata Harbour has been pulled free by a rescue helicopter.
Two men were kayaking this afternoon and one became stuck waist-deep after trying to walk to the shore just after 1:30pm, the other man remained in his kayak.
Police Senior Sergeant James Hall says emergency services could not reach the men without getting stuck themselves so the Westpac helicopter had to be called to winch out the kayakers.
He says it was vital the pair were rescued before high tide later today.
