A rental vehicle driven by tourists was the car involved in a fatal crash on the South Island's West Coast yesterday afternoon.
One woman died at the scene, on State Highway 73, south of Kumara.
The three other occupants were taken to Grey Base Hospital.
All were women aged in their 20s.
One of the survivors has been transferred to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
West Coast police are today speaking with witnesses.
A serious crash investigation is underway and police are liasing with the appropriate consulate.
