A nine-year-old girl is in Starship Hospital after being hit by a car in Auckland.

A St John spokeswoman said the child was struck by a vehicle on Fowlds Avenue in Sandringham, at around 3.20 this afternoon.

The girl sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Starship.

An Auckland District Health Board spokesman said the girl was in a stable condition.

Police are investigating.
