Another person has died on the roads this holiday weekend following a serious crash on State Highway 3 near Te Kuiti.
At 5.32am Emergency Services were called to a serious crash at Tanehopuwai after two cars collided head on.
Fire services said one person had died and their body was trapped in their vehicle.
Two other people were injured, one seriously.
Diversions will be in place to divert traffic around this area, police said.
Police were asking motorist to avoid the area and have patience whilst the Emergency Services conduct scene examinations and attend to the injured.
The crash takes the Queen’s Birthday weekend road toll to two, after a fatal crash last night in Dunedin.
A 64-year-old Kaikoura man died and several others were badly injured in the four-car crash, including a pregnant woman.
In another incident overnight, two boy racers have been injured in a crash in Palmerston North.
Police said the crash happened after they received numerous calls about racers in the early hours of this morning.
Two cars crashed out of about 40 ‘boy racer’ type vehicles which had congregated on Railway Road.
One driver has moderate injuries and the other has minor injuries.
Both cars were expected to be written off.
