Firefighters will be back out at first light this morning, to tackle a massive blaze in Hanmer Springs that has been contained, and is now under control.
MORE: Hanmer Springs fire "largely contanined"
North Canterbury Conservation Operations Manager Kingsley Timpson said it's finally contained.Â
He said the concern's a lot less than what it was, and the progress is down to a group of hard workers.Â
The fire cut power to the village for several hours and prevented motorists from accessing the town yesterday morning.
It burned through nearly 100 hectares of scrub and vegetation, and eight helicopters were brought in yesterday to try bring it under control.
Winds are expected to pick up from midday, and tomorrow forecasts are predicting strong north-westerly winds.
Investigators are yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
A cigarette butt or car accident are two possible causes for the fire, but until an investigator determines otherwise, it's all speculation at this point.
