UPDATED 2.51pm:Â A motorist has died after their car collided with a bus carrying 21 passengers in South Waikato.
The crash occurred at 12.30pm at the Awakino Gorge.
Inspector Mike Coleman believes those on the Inter-City bus weren't injured and have been transported on another bus.
He says the person who died was the only person in the car.
He says the front of the bus is badly damaged and the car has gone off the side of a bank.
State Highway 3 between Awakino and Mokau will be closed for a few hours.
An alternative route via Taumarunui is available, but will add about four hours to the trip.
