Emergency services rescue three after Edgecumbe crash

Updated 2.42pm: Emergency services have used the jaws of life to rescue three people from a four wheel drive involved in a serious crash in the Bay of Plenty.

Three children were thrown from the vehicle which rolled on Otakiri Road in Edgecumbe at about midday.

The road remains closed while crews work to clear the scene.

A ten year old girl and a 12 year old boy were airlifted to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.

Three others were taken to Whakatane Hospital by ambulance - a 16 year old female, a 17 year old male and a 46 year old woman.

A six year old girl with moderate injuries is also in Whakatane Hospital.
