A lucky escape for an elderly resident in Waihi this morning.
The Fire Service was called to a house in the town around 10.20am.
The fire was well involved.
It appeared to have started in the ceiling of the house before spreading.
Northern fire communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said firefighters were in the process of removing roofing iron to ventilate the building.
The elderly man was unharmed.
