UPDATED 11.55AM: The pilot of a helicopter which crashed in the remote Ruapehu District this morning has apparently survived, but is badly hurt.
Emergency services were called just after 9.30am this morning. They say the pilot was the only person on board.
Newstalk ZB understands rescuers have arrived and are working to free the pilot.
His injuries are described as severe.
