A new site for two Christchurch high schools has been revealed.

Education Minister Hekia Parata says Avonside Girls' High School and Shirley Boys' will co-locate at QEII Park.

The schools are being forced to move because of land damage caused in the earthquakes.

They'll operate independently on the site, but share facilities.

QEII is also the preferred site for the city council's eastern recreation and sport centre.

Design will begin on the two schools next year.

They're expected to be finished in 2018.
