UPDATED 7.55am: The wait is finally over for tens of thousands of high school students.

NZQA has now made NCEA exam results available online.

NCEA results will also be posted to students later this month.

Around 170,000 students are expected to nervously log on to see their NCEA results over the next few days. Some 80,000 students are expected to visit the website today alone.

NZQA spokesperson Kristine Kilkelly said results will be posted to the NZQA website this morning, and is hopeful things will go without a hitch.

"It was a very good experience I think for students last year, so we've continued those enhancements through the year, and we have every expectation of a good day for our students."

Kilkelly said it's a very important day for students "for them to get certainty for their career choices and their planning, so I think there will be in some cases a little trepidation, but the feedback we get is that they are very keen to get their results."

NCEA have extended contact centre hours to address any questions.
