The principal of a south Auckland private school being closed by the Government is not a fully registered teacher.
An ERO report reveals the principal of Pacific Christian School in Mangere was previously the school manager and currently holds a temporary Limited Authority to Teach.
The school faces closure in a fortnight, after allegations four teachers have been hitting students.
Pacific Christian School in the Auckland suburb of Mangere first hit headlines last year, when an 11-year-old allegedly stabbed another student in the head with scissors.
The Ministry of Education is now suspending the school's registration, over concerns four teachers have been hitting students.
Spokesperson Katrina Casey said it's not a step they take lightly.Â
But there is reportedly surprise in the Pacific community over the closure of the school, with members of the community saying they know nothing about physical discipline.
Auckland Councillor Alf Filipaina lives around the corner but hasn't had any complaints about physical discipline being used there.
He said he hasn't been told it's rampant or even happening at all.
Mr Filipaina believes it is right the allegations are being investigated.
The Education Ministry said there are "serious and ongoing concerns" about students' safety and welfare at the school.
It's is the first time the Ministry had suspended a private school's registration.
