The woman killed while out for her morning run yesterday was Joanne Marie Pert.

Ms Pert was 41, and the mother of a seven-year-old son and six-year-old daughter.

Her name was suppressed this morning when the man charged with her murder appeared in the Auckland District Court.

Police hadn't completed the formal identification process at the time the man appeared.

Ms Pert was an avid runner and had competed in a number of marathon events.
