A Christchurch 16-year-old face eight charges of burglary over a mass underwear theft in Burwood.

Police uncovered a large number of "smalls" when they searched an address at the start of the month.

It followed a number of complaints from local women who found their knickers missing from washing lines and clothes horses inside their homes.

The teenager will appear in the Christchurch Youth Court next week.
