Students are being urged to be extra vigilant in the Aro Valley area following reports of assaults in the area.
The Victoria University Students' Association has been contacted by two students reporting physical and sexual assaults in the area near the Kelburn Campus.
The reports have prompted a warning from the student union.
Students' Association President Jonathan Gee said they don't have specific details about the assaults but are concerned.
"We've received two messages from two different students who've raised issues around, from what they've heard are, incidents of physical or sexual assault which have taken place in the Aro Valley, Kelburn campus area."
Mr Gee said they've contacted police and relevant agencies, and are being proactive in warning students.
"It's sad that we live in a community where we have to be vigilant like this. Have your phone on you. Make sure people know where you are and if you have any concerns or suspicions contact the relevant people or services."
Students have reported a number of assaults near Victoria University over the past few days.
