A homicide inquiry has been launched after the death of a man in Palmerston North.

Officers were called to a central city address around 10 last night where a fight had taken place between two men.

As a result, a 28 year old man was rushed to hospital with injuries to his upper body - but he died this morning.

A 26 year old man has been charged with murder and will appear in the Palmerston North District Court today.

A scene examination is underway at the property and officers are speaking to witnesses.

Police say they aren't looking for anyone else in relation to the death.
