A police officer has been mowed down in a South Auckland fast food restaurant drive-through by a fleeing vehicle.

Police said the stolen car was seen at the Papakura McDonald's drive-through on Great South Rd around 6.25pm yesterday.

A sergeant went to the fast-food restaurant and spoke with the male driver waiting in the car to be served. A woman and child were also in the car.

As the queue cleared, the driver hit the accelerator knocking the sergeant over then driving through a red light at high speed.

The sergeant received minor injuries and received medical attention.

Police say they are concerned at the level of disregard shown, not only for the safety of their staff, but for members of the public and the woman and child in the stolen car.

The vehicle is described as a home painted matte-black Nissan Terrano registration BMM872.

Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of the vehicle or its occupants to phone 111 immediately or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
