A Mount Roskill man accused of murdering a woman in Remuera has been granted interim name suppression.

The woman died on a stranger's front lawn in Shore Road after being attacked yesterday morning.

A 24-year-old man who handed himself into police yesterday has appeared in the Auckland District Court charged with murder.

Police said this morning they were yet to formally identify the woman, though her name appeared on court documents.

Her name has been suppressed until four this afternoon.

The accused was remanded in custody until his next appearance in the High Court at Auckland.
