The man killed in a stabbing in Mt Albert, Auckland, yesterday has been named as Nathan Matai Pukeroa.
The 24-year-old died early on Thursday in the incident at a property in Renton Rd.
Another man, said to be "an associate" of Mr Pukeroa's, was also stabbed and rushed to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition. He discharged himself last night, police said.
Police are continuing investigations into the fatal incident and are still on the hunt for a weapon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Fabish, of the Avondale CIB, asked nearby residents to check their properties for anything that might help the case.
"These crimes are never solved in isolation and I ask that all residents in the area search their properties and advise police if they find any sharp items or potential weapons."
Mr Fabish said Mr Pukeroa's family were being helped by police and Victim Support.
"Our focus today has been on trying to establish the nature of the attack on Mr Pukeroa and his associate...
"We believe both men were stabbed and we'd very much like to hear from anyone who has information about who is responsible."
