A 25-year-old Mt Albert man has been arrested and charged with murdering 24-year-old Nathan Pukeroa who died in Renton Rd, Mt Albert, a week ago.
The accused has also been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to Mr Pukeroa's 22-year-old associate who was seriously injured during the incident.
He was due to appear in Auckland District Court today.
Detective Inspector Chris Cahill said police had also found what was believed to be the murder weapon.
"Today's development is a very welcome one but there's still a lot of investigative and background work to do," Mr Cahill said.
"We are, as usual, very appreciative of the assistance and support from the Mt Albert community over the past week and are relieved to be able to announce today's arrest."
Mr Cahill said police were continuing with a scene examination at 19 Renton Rd and expect to be there for at least the next few days.
The investigation team has recovered "several items of interest" today, he said.
