A man is facing attempted murder charges after shooting a woman in Palmerston North last year.
A 21-year-old man is set to appear in the Palmerston North District Court today, charged with attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police were called to an address on Tremaine Ave in Palmerston North on the evening of Friday, December 13, following reports that a woman had been shot by someone known to her.
The woman was critically injured and taken to the hospital. She has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
Detective Sergeant Joe Salisbury said investigations, including multiple scene examinations and inquiries, led to the execution of an arrest warrant yesterday.
The Armed Offenders Squad assisted in apprehending the 21-year-old man at a campground in Kimbolton, he said.
During the operation, a 23-year-old man was also arrested at the scene on unrelated firearms charges.
“We know the police activity yesterday would have concerned some members of the public who were in the area, and we want to reassure them that as a result, a man accused of violent offending will now be held to account for his actions,” Salisbury said.
The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
