The trial of Troy Taylor for the murder of a 15-month old baby will enter its second week this morning.
Ihaka Stokes died in July 2015 after sustaining 59 separate injuries.
During the first week of the trial defence lawyer Phillip Shamy has tried to cast doubt over Ihaka's mother's innocence.
During court he said his client Troy Taylor will take the stand this week, and will tell the jury he will say the statement he gave police shortly after Ihaka's death is false.
Shamy said Taylor will say he gave the false statement in an effort to protect Ihaka's mother from getting into trouble.
The trial is expected to wrap up this week.
