A man has been charged with murder after turning up at Manukau Police Station with a dead child in the car.
A homicide investigation is under way after the man arrived at the station about 1am, where he spoke to police staff.
Police say the 37-year-old is known to the child and family.
“He has been arrested and will appear in the Manukau District Court later today, charged with murder,” said a police spokesperson.

It follows an incident where a critically injured man drove himself to the same police station in October last year, before being rushed to hospital.
