A convicted murderer wanted by police after breaching his parole conditions has handed himself in to police.
Police issued a warrant to arrest Christopher Gregory Thomas, 36, after an alleged violent incident and threats in Massey on Monday.
They warned yesterday evening he was believed to be armed and a potential threat to police and the public.
However, a short time after issuing the warning, police said Thomas had handed himself in to police in Henderson about 10pm last night.
Thomas was released from prison on March 2 this year to a Mt Albert address.
The Parole Board on Tuesday issued an interim order to recall Thomas to prison for breaching his parole conditions.
Mr Scott said Thomas was understood to have been frequenting several Auckland addresses and it was possible he was using a silver BMW car.
At his High Court murder trial in 2002, the jury was told Thomas, then a 24-year-old barber, shot Michael Coffin in the back of the head the previous year.
He then buried the 21-year-old chef's body beneath a house in Browns Bay on Auckland's North Shore.
The Crown said the motive was to rob the dead man of two ounces of cocaine worth $14,000 to $16,000.
