A Christchurch pre-school teacher has denied sexually abusing two girls.

The man in his 60s, who can't be named for legal reasons - faces 18 charges including rape, sexual violation and indecent assault.

The allegations date from January 2004 to May this year.

Charging documents state the man's occupation as a teacher - but he is not currently working.

The man elected trial by jury and was remanded on bail to a crown case review hearing on November 7.
