A Milton man who sexually offended against two girls has been sentenced to nearly seven years in prison.

Peter Jeffery appeared for sentence this morning in the Dunedin District Court.

The 51-year-old was sentenced on multiple charges, including the rape of one of the victims when she was just 11.

Judge Michael Crosbie described to the court how Jeffery was drunk when he committed a number of the offences, including the rape.

He talked over how the young victim pleaded with him to stop, when he was raping her - and that he told her that if she told anyone it would ruin the family.
