Christchurch Police have arrested two people after an alleged Meridian scam that targeted elderly residents.

The company alerted police after reports from customers who received phone calls or visits from people claiming to work for it, and threatened to turn their power off unless they were given cash or credit card details.

A 25-year-old woman and 19-year-old-man will appear in Christchurch District Court next week each facing two fraud related charges including Obtain By Deception.
