UPDATED 8.12pm Police are investigating the link between a man found in a critical condition, and a woman whose body was found in a neighbouring property near Dunedin.

A 53-year-old woman was found dead at her house on Coast Road at the village 30 kilometres north of Dunedin this morning, near to where police earlier found a critically injured man.

Armed police cordoned off the village of Seacliff after finding the 59-year-old man seriously injured with gunshot wounds in Truby King Reserve.

A few hours later the woman's body was found at a neighbouring property.

A firearm was also found in the reserve.

Police said they're not in position to comment further.

However, they said residents should feel safe, knowing the incident was an isolated one.
