The Retirement Village Association has accepted a written apology from a Christchurch rest home owner.

Lady Wigram Retirement Village owner John Tooby was recorded by the Christchurch Star last month berating four elderly residents for protesting noisy trucks.

Retirement Village Association Executive Director John Collyns said Tooby now realises his behaviour was unacceptable.

"Mr Tooby has apologised to the residents whom he insulted. He has written formally to apologise to all the other residents in this village, and he's written formally to the association to apologise to us for bringing the industry into disrepute."

Tooby was recorded verbally abusing the residents, telling them he was "f**king pissed off" with them for contacting the Star about the noisy trucks and that he would not put up "with that sh*t".

Collyns said they consider the matter closed, and trusts that behaviour won't happen again.
