Police are expected to release further details today about a Canterbury climber who died on Mt Cook over the weekend.
The man's body was recovered yesterday on the north side of the east ridge of the mountain.
It's understood four experienced Canterbury climbers set out from Plateau Hut early on Saturday morning to climb the ridge.
They're reported to have been fully equipped for the conditions.
One of the climbers radioed for help around 7.30am, after the man fell.
An alpine rescue team was flown to the scene yesterday morning to recover the man's body and his belongings.
His death has been referred to the coroner.
A police investigation is continuing.
